PACKARD MOTORS INDUSTRIAL PLANT

Detroit Mi, my first trip back to Detroit since my arrest there in 2010

Quote

The Packard Plant is former automobile-manufacturing factory in Detroit, Michigan where luxury Packard cars were made by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan, and later by the Studebaker-Packard Corporation of South Bend, Indiana.

The 3,500,000-square-foot (325,000 m2), plant was designed by Albert Kahn and is located on over 40 acres (0.142 km2) of land on East Grand Boulevard. It included the first use of reinforced concrete for industrial construction in Detroit.[1]

The Packard plant was opened in 1903 and at the time was considered the most modern automobile manufacturing facility in the world with skilled craftsmen who practiced over eighty trades.[citation needed] The factory closed in 1958, however, but the buildings remain standing as of 2011, and the city has pledged legal action to have it demolished or secured.[2]

Since its abandonment, it has served as a haven for graffiti artists, urban explorers, paintballers, auto scrappers and scavengers. A number of the outer buildings were in use by businesses as recently as 2007, but no more tenants appear to remain.

Awesome!
Now you can tear a building down, but you can't erase a memory
These houses may look all run down, but they have a value you can't see

So there we were, enjoying our bar-b-q on the roof of the Packard, when all of a sudden, we all hear a loud "BOOM". R3d yells over "a car just slammed into the Packard!" When we look over the side of the roof, we see the source of the noise, a car DID crash into the Packard! Cops drove by, didn't even stop. Only in Detroit.

LOL. Great pics dude! (i like the one in the gallery of the food cooking :P). Anyways, just imagine what it would've been like seeing some brand new Packards rolling out of there. Also, that Ford had to have been a competetors car(in that era), must've been Henry Ford saying "Yeah B****S I Won that battle!"

Yum. Brats and Burgers!

Here's a homemade BBQ grill from the Byberry days.
File-cabinet drawer and the cage from an in/out desk organizer.

That's pure McGyverness there bro. Nothin like BBQing on a holiday on a roof of an abandoned building.
The last one we had was great.

And nice pics FD
