Saturday, March 13th (which coincidentally is 313, the Detroit area code) seemed like it could have been any other day for me. I did the same thing I always do, went to school, met up with some friends for lunch, decided to hit up a new (to me) abandonment.

As I said, it was regular Saturday business for me. I never thought it would land me in the back of a cop car, handcuffed.

I really never thought I would spend 3 days & 2 nights in jail.

Let me rewind this story a bit. Like I said, it was a day like no other. I went to my morning class, came home and packed up my backpack.

I had all of my equipment ready… my camera, flashlights, spotlight and 2 bottles of water all in place. Ready to rock & roll.

After our delicious lunch of schwarmas, we arrive at the location, again, ready to roll. We find the door unlocked and we step inside. Just inside, it appears as if some renovations have been taking place. We head up the stairs, when from below we hear a voice.

“THE FUCK? LOU, IS THAT YOU? THAT BETTER BE YOU.”

We pause. Moments later, we begin to head down, quietly...

“THE FUCK? I TOLD YOU, THIS AINT FUNNY!”

Then, moments later, three workers, two black guys and one janky lookin white guy, rush the stairs, cornering us. The only way is up. We realize that were fucked and don’t bother fighting.

The detain us while we wait for the cops. Minutes pass by like hours, and we begin to get worried what these guys are gonna do to us if the cops DON’T show up.

When they finally arrive, I find myself pushed up against a window, pistol shoved into my back as I’m being handcuffed. Courtesy of Detroit’s finest.

Were taken to the station and placed into holding. We find out were being charged with felony b&e with intent [to commit another felony].

Keep in mind, this took place on a Saturday, so were being held until the following Monday for our arraignment.

To keep a long story short, we spent 3 days & 2 nights in jail before FINALLY being released.

Monday night, round 9pm I got my first taste of fresh air & freedom in nearly 72 hours.

The first person I called when I got out was actually a member of these forums, my dear friend Savanna.

A week after my release, my friends & I went to our hearing, and (because my friend - also arrested with me- knews the owner) he [the owner] ended up dropping charges against us.

Unfortunately, my camera and my friend John's camera were nowhere to be found after our arrest or our hearing. Again, thanks to Detroit's "Finest".

I'm sorry I didn't get the word out to all of you sooner, I've been so busy catching up with life, working and school I didn't have much time lately.

I'm gonna make up for it with a shit ton of urbex videos.

Damn sucks about your cameras, but at least you got out of the two felonies. And got a pretty cool story to go with, glad everything worked out for the best in the end.

I still cannot believe this story.
I was so worried when i didnt hear from you for a few days cause that never ever happens..
I'm so glad they dropped the charges because your not allowed to be in jail.

I'm glad that you finally got a camera again, i know you were so upset after they stole it

I got charges dropped, its only on my record that I was arrested.

To see any details, they have to go to court to get the documents released

Your a lucky man Dan, when I got busted at Eastgate by the silent motion detector, I had no one to back me up, even if I had a urbex buddy with me, it would have made no difference - I was trapped in a small room where the cops finally got me. 5 units were there along with their nasty K9 dog. Charges flown at me left and right. Other than that my record is clean.
