Where do you all feel would be a good location for the meetup?

I am in Michigan, but there aren't many Michigan members on here and I would not be opposed to the idea of traveling.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Hopefully this meet up won't be to far, I'd love to go!

As for a location, we have a dude ranch by us, that I grew up on. The spookiest damn place on the face the earth. It's still open (my bro in law works there), It gets pretty eerie at night. It has everything for the traveling fan. It is a dude ranch, complete with old decrept barn, ancient main house, AND to top it off, they serve 3 meals a day included in the price. They have a bar, and indoor pool, large fishing/boating lake. To top it off, I personally can guarentee it's haunted, both the main house and the boat house.

That is some of it. Tons of exploring. Even head into town, or couple mintues out of town, pull up a map of Milford, PA 18337 and see how close it is to NY & NJ...

Haha! I live pretty damn close to Milford. Milford MICHIGAN that is.

And that place looks pretty cool, though not very eerie during the day. I guess I'd have to see it at night.

As for a meetup itsself, I wasn't sure if this would be an exploration, or maybe just a place we can bring our gear, photos and stories. Probably have a good meal and maybe an organized exploration aftewards.

I'm going to suggest St. Louis, MO. I visit there at least once or twice a month (being two hours away in southern Illinois) and the area is FULL of abandonment (some estimates put the abandoned building count in St. Louis at over 2500). Aside from the abandoned industrial riverfront north and riverfront bike trail which I believe ends up around an abandoned cement factory, there of course is also the Arch and other popular tourist destinations.

If the meet were to be held here, I'm in good with the owners/resident caretaker of the abandoned St. Louis - Southwestern Cotton Belt Freight Depot:

We would be able to congregate safely there without fear of trespassing charges, all the while meeting Jeremiah the Amish Hobo and his many area friends. He would no doubt be willing to take us on a "homeless" tour of the city (which I've been on), which showcases tons of photogenic locations and places well off the beaten-path, including the tunnels underneath the city (assuming they haven't been filled in by summer).

For those who dare, East St. Louis is also home to literally acres and acres of abandonment, including the still-standing National Stockyards, sandwiched between the decaying Hunter and Armour meat packing plants. I've been to the latter, but wasn't able to get inside to take pics for fear there was someone in there I didn't want to encounter with the group I had.

I would also be able to talk to the guy who runs eco-absence.org about organizing something as well.

I think where this is held is gonna depend on the area with the most members who are willing to attend.

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't remember if it was here or at ABNF where we had a topic that had members' locations.

Well, I am currently residing in Pennsylvania - St. Louis would be a trip I could do depending on when my friend from St. Louis was going to visit again (a local I could ride with and possibly get more information from about said abandoned locations) but its obvious that it would be much more convenient to keep it on the east coast. There are so many amazing abandoned buildings in Philadelphia and New York.

Think about it I guess! Looking forward to it-

But it sounds like there are a bunch of us in PA. If an outta PA site is chosen within reason, I suggest we PA peeps Car Pool LMAO

Not many responses here. I would have thought some of the 'veteran'& repeat posters would have suggested a location, that is, unless they don't like us. haha.
Are we any closer to finding a location??

I like the PA Idea as long as it's not far from Canada, I would love to attend this meet in 2010 hopefully summer time so I can book time off. I love the PA Idea because it's only about a 4-5 hour drive to the PA border along the I-90 going to Ohio. I would bring a friend and we would love to come as long as the trip is not more then 6-7 hours away.
