The Lasky building had just recently caught fire, no?

I don't believe so, at least not that I can recall. According to a book I have on Detroit area theatres, it actually closed down in 1949 as a theatre. During my child hood, it was a furniture store, then it was closed for a considerable length of time. Just before the final closure, the owners were trying to turn it into a storage facility.

A good friend of mine lives in, works in and breaths Detroit. Hes also very well known photographer of the area.

I asked him about this, and he confirmed that the Lasky building did indeed catch fire and was torn down.

me (2:48:31 PM): the lasky building caught fire recently, yes?

Not tryign to be a no-it-all... And I apologize if I came off as dickish with my comments. I was just wanting clarification, because if I were wrong, I wanted to correct myself.

Oh, not at all. It was just that I was a bit embarrassed because I drive by there most every day and never even noticed that it had burned.
