Hello! I'm Abby. I am very new to this website but far from new to urban exploration. I am looking for anyone around my general area who is looking for a partner to go out exploring/photographing with me. Preferably someone who is serious and honestly interested in urban exploration. I am 28 years old and attending college locally for Criminal Justice.

I went up to Centralia on Wednesday and got about 120 pictures and 3 videos. Today I went to Fricks Lock & Pennhurst. Fricks Lock I got about 80 pictures....Pennhurst.....well thats a different story!

Anyone interested????? I am down to go anywhere within reason (3 - 3 1/2 hours away max)

Email me @ xdecayedbeautyx@gmail.com

:D

Welcome and please post pics. I'd go with you except I'm in AZ.
Now you can tear a building down, but you can't erase a memory
These houses may look all run down, but they have a value you can't see

I'll gladly explore with you. I am no kid and been doing this for quite some time. I am a hop, skip and jump from you. Your area has a lot of cool stuff. Fricks Lock sucks now. But there are dozens of cool abandonments all around our area. PM me when you want to come out east a bit (next county over).

Yea Fricks Lock did kinda suck a bit because all of the "kids" destroyed the inside of the houses and now they have every window boarded up to some degree. It would be way cooler if you could see inside the houses. Was really nice though with the sun going down walking in the silence of what used to be.

Next county over huh? - Im down. I'd LOVE to go to Byberry but I heard that its watched like a hawk & if you get caught in there you get a real hefty fine, & that its near impossible to get into the place anymore too! Pennhurst is a goal of mine when the weather gets better.

I'm no kid either :P and have been exploring now for only about 11 years with only ever the intentions of photographing and researching/investigating sometimes. I cant believe what some people do to these beautiful decaying memories! & it only ruins it in the long run for the people who mean no harm! Very frustrating! I am an non-active member (havent been active for bout 5 years) of the Pennsylvania Paranormal Society - founder Rick Fisher.

I'm kinda eccentric but oh well....urbanex at heart!

I thought Byberry was demolished?
How do I live without the ones I love? / Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned / Place and time always on my mind / I have so much to say but you're so far away

"its hard to call these buildings abandoned when we have all but abandoned them."

Well I've never got the chance either due to my work schedule, the way the economy is going there will be more abandonments and state hospitals are slowly closing.

Thats good news but bad at the same time! The economy is falling apart! If we all worked together we could fix it - but only in a perfect world!

Unemployment rate record high! I am currently on unemployment after being laid off of my medical job, along with 20 others....unflipping believeable I know.

Ive been up in around Harrisburg State Hospital before it was made into a Rehab center some years back.......very cool buildings up there......the old Morgue.....my favorite!

Your not allowed to take any pics on the grounds but I did and really no one was around. I saw some VERY VERY interesting things to say the least

No problem! Unfor. I do not have the disc that has my old photographs of the hospital but I will post from the net just so you can get a taste of what it looks like.

Harrisburg State Hospital in Dauphin County, was Pennsylvania?s first public facility to house the mentally ill and disabled. Legislation passed in 1845 to establish the hospital and it was opened as the Pennsylvania State Lunatic Hospital, admitting its first patient, in 1851. During its prime the hospital consumed over 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) and included more than 70 buildings, the hospital had its own farms, power plant, and stores. It became known as the "City on the hill". Before the current campus and buildings were built, there was a Kirkbride Plan hospital built on the grounds. But it was torn down for the less "prison" feeling cottage plan hospital that you see today.
Harrisburg State Hospital closed it doors on January 27, 2006. The facility provided over 150 years of service to Pennsylvania's mentally ill. It now serves as office space for several state government offices. The vacant buildings are still maintained in the event that the hospital needs to be re-opened for emergency purposes.

Harrisburg State Hospital was used for the hospital setting in the film, Girl, Interrupted. There are buildings that are abandoned and sealed off still but there are also buildings that are in use to this day. The original building that housed the mentally ill is now a rehab center. There are tunnels all over the grounds that lead from building to building as well as buildings to the morgue which is 1 of the buildings that is boarded up and abandoned. Inside there was still items all around (2 years ago).

You have to explore the grounds to see all the buildings that are abandoned because some of them are not. The grounds themselves are state owned and it is against their regulations to take pictures on the grounds so if you are going to do this do it without getting caught. The security there is semi high, you will not get in trouble for just walking the roads if you tell them you are just going for a harmless walk. At the main building.....there is a hidden stairway that leads down into the woods......beautiful stairway may I add made out of stone....if its nice out try to find it and walk it. There is also a very old cemetary on the grounds way up at the top of the hill....as well as an orphanage.

Just be careful if you go.....state grounds.

*These are not my pics.....just taken from random sites online to show you what the place looks like*

What is very interesting about the post I actually watched girl interrupted last night and was wondering why the pictures seemed so real. Like I have seen them on other sites etc. Wow that all I can say and I log on line and now I know where it is .

Thanks for the post

Yea, I know what you mean, that's a place that I miss & haven't even been there....
I'm not far from ya either, I'm over in York but we do work over in Lanc (along with everywhere else in central PA)
Gimme a yell sometime, we're going up to Centralia on Saturday to do some riding. Hoping for nice weather!

As far as HSH, I've been up there and when it's nice out, there are tons of people around. Most are taking walks cause there are paved paths all over the campus. There was a bunch of 'late age teenagers' playing basketball on the court & quite a few vehicles in the lots. Overall, in late spring it's beautiful up there & warm enough to explore. As far as a location, very easy to get to. Its right across the street from the PA Farm Show building on Cameron Street in Harrisburg. Just look up on the hill, you'll be able to see HSH made out of shrubs.
