Today I scored a Canon PowerShot A570 IS from ebay.
I took some of my most coveted and crystal-clear shots with my old 570! I loved that camera to pieces! Literally, when I dropped it in a North Philly abandonment, it exploded into pieces, lol! By that time they were no longer being made and I suffered with a 590 until I had to break it myself so the warranty would replace it. There was visible condensation between the protective outer lens and the real lens inside and it messed up over a thousand photos with it's unfixable blurring in the corners of my photos. I use an SX120IS now, but I dearly miss my old silver 570.
You're a lucky gal to have one Chainz. It'll treat you well. I loved mine.
Here's a photo from the 570. It's all I needed.

I can't wait to take some time and take a bunch of pics with it. I've only taken a few, but the few that I have taken are really good with this camera.

Awww, it's my camera.
If the wind ever stops blowing here I'll make a run to Needles and shoot some stuff.

So....I did a bad thing in December. I bought a Fuji X100. I haven't used it for UE yet, mostly, because WA State, at least in my area, blows for exploring. ANYWAY.....this might be of interest for some of you, especially if you want to keep things quiet. It's silent, small, has a usable ISO of 12800, a built in flash that doesn't suck, has a 35mm equivalent lens and the same 1.6x crop size sensor as an entry level DSLR, and will shoot 720p video with sound. The downside? It is a fixed lens camera. It also costs about $1200 new. I picked up a barely used one for $900. You will also want to pick up at least two or three extra batteries for it since they have a relatively short life. eBay is a good source for $5 batteries though. I have Four. You will also want to get the fastest card possible. I bought a Sandisk Extreme class 10 card. My other class 10 "budget" cards can't keep up.
This camera is not, I repeat NOT a DSLR replacement. However, it is light years ahead of any point & shoot on the market. It's also a camera that requires you to put some time into it to learn all of it's quirks. It's not for everyone, but if you're comfortable shooting manual and you have some knowledge of photography, you will probably like this camera. I have no regrets buying it. It lets me do about 80-90% of what I normally do with a DSLR, but it fits in my pocket and let's me leave the 20+lbs of pro gear at home when packing light is a factor.
There are tons of reviews online covering this camera. I highly recommend reading some of them. Dpreview.com is probably the most comprehensive and unbiased review. Basically, they all boil down to everyone loves the photos and they're willing to put up with the camera's idiosyncrasies. The new firmware fixes a lot of the problems people complained about. The only thing I found truly annoying was the lack of a physical button/dial for ISO, but I set the function button as a shortcut for bringing up the ISO. Problem solved.
If you would like to see some shots from this camera, nearly all the recent entries on my blog: http://photosbyfaust.wordpress.com/ we're shot on the Fuji. I'm more than happy to answer any questions about it if anyone is interested in picking one up.
